I am Francesco Fanti, a landscape photographer based near Bologna, Italy.
The Fine Art of Bookmarks started with a small idea. After years of photographing places I loved, I had a hundred images that wanted to live somewhere outside a hard drive. Not on a wall. Not in a coffee table book. Somewhere closer to the kind of life I lived: between the pages of whatever I was reading.
So I cut them. Six by eighteen centimetres of cotton paper, printed with archival pigment inks, finished by hand. Twenty series, five bookmarks each. One hundred images.
Each one is a place that asked to be kept close. Some are the Dolomites at first light. Some are deserts on another continent. Some are the lavender field five minutes from my studio. They are all photographs first, and bookmarks second.
